Addis Ortho is an orthopaedic implant supplier in Ethiopia, providing high-quality orthopaedic supplies and technical support. Addis Ortho was founded by Dr Samuel Hailu, a fellowship-trained joint replacement and orthopaedic trauma surgeon (University of Toronto, 2015), after he saw repeated gaps in implant supply while performing hip and knee replacement in Addis Ababa. Addis Ortho does not provide clinical care. Dr Samuel Hailu and partner surgeons treat patients at their host hospitals; Addis Ortho supplies the implants and technical support.
We are committed to supplying orthopaedic implants and technical support to surgeons and hospitals across Ethiopia and East Africa. The company’s current focus is on hip and knee joint replacement and orthopaedic trauma products.

Founder’s Vision and Experience
Dr Samuel Hailu performed hip joint replacement at Tikur Anbessa (Black Lion) Specialized Hospital and in private hospitals, while knee replacement was available only in private hospitals.
The Birth of Addis Ortho
Driven by his commitment to improving orthopaedic care, Dr Samuel Hailu founded Addis Ortho to address the shortage of joint replacement implants in Ethiopia. Its work has two parts:
- Implant supply: Addis Ortho addresses the scarcity of joint replacement supplies in Ethiopia. By facilitating the distribution and availability of essential implants, the company supports access to orthopaedic procedures.
- Clinical partnership: Clinical care is provided by Dr Samuel Hailu and partner surgeons at their host hospitals; Addis Ortho supplies implants and technical support and works with colleagues and trainees to widen access to joint replacement.
